Rumors have recently circulated of Secretary Geithner’s resignation considerations from the Treasury Department post he has held since Obama came into the White House. However, these rumors are ill-considered and unlikely. It is both politically and practically inopportune for Geithner to resign his post before the 2012 election. Any confirmation hearing for the next Treasury Secretary would be hotly contested and may be used by House Republicans as an opportunity to poke holes in the Obama Administration while grid-locking the Executive Branch. Continuity is needed in the Treasury Department as the Obama Administration continues to deflect criticism of its economic policies. [/expand]
