by Colonel on March 9, 2013

“Shortly after the close, the Dow was sitting at 14,397.07, up 67.58 or 0.47%. The blue-chip index traded as high as 14,413.17 but couldn’t hold on.

Within an hour of the open, major indexes flattened out and briefly turned mixed. At that point, the Dow Jones industrial average was the only benchmark to hold its gains.

The Standard & Poor’s 500 stock index inched closer to its all-time high of 1,565.15 set Oct. 9, 2007, but failed to crack that mark. At the open, it was only 20.89 points away. It finished almost 14 points away at 1,551.18, up 6.92 points or 0.45%.

The Nasdaq composite index ended the day up 12.28 points or 0.38% at 3,244.37.

The yield on 10-year Treasury notes, which moves inversely to the price, rose to 2.06% from 2% Thursday.
