Gun Rights Advocates File Federal Lawsuit to Overturn New York Gun Control Law

“Gun rights advocates filed a federal lawsuit Thursday seeking to overturn Gov. Cuomo’s landmark gun control law.

The lawsuit, filed in a Buffalo court, says the law’s ban on assault weapons and prohibitions against large-capacity magazines violate the Second Amendment.

“This is an action to vindicate the right of the people of the State of New York to keep and bear arms,” the plaintiffs, including the New York State Rifle and Pistol Association, wrote in the lawsuit.

State Attorney General Eric Schneiderman vowed to “aggressively defend” the gun law.
